Senior Corp RSVP Birthday

(Retired and Senior Volunteer Program) engages Americans over 55 in volunteer service that meets national and community needs and delivers lasting, meaningful results by improving lives and communities and strengthening civic engagement. RTEBN received a call that a group of 20-30 family members wanted to come out and celebrate their mother's birthday. This was a terrific opportunity to involve an intergenerational cohort in building a food garden for the residents of West Berkeley.

AmeriCorps has six areas of focus: Disaster Services; Economic Opportunity; Education; Environmental Stewardship; Healthy Futures; and Veterans and Military Families. Our 6th St. Urban Garden provides many volunteer opportunities that meet those focus areas.

Our Senior Corp RSVP volunteers were in full-service last weekend, beginning work at the 6th St. Urban Garden. The Urban Garden will provide Healthy Futures through Education and Environmental Stewardship. The volunteers cleared the debris and overgrown vegetation. Making way for the new garden structures and plantings that will help reduce food insecurity for our local veterans and neighbors.
